Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

And His words: إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا ("Indeed, he was joyful among his family") (84:13). The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: indeed, in the worldly life he was joyful among his family, on account of what was in him of transgressing Allah's command and committing acts of disobedience to Him.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the interpreters (ahl at-taʾwīl) have spoken.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words: إِنَّهُ كَانَ فِي أَهْلِهِ مَسْرُورًا ("Indeed, he was joyful among his family"): that is, in the worldly life.
