And We removed from you your burden

وَوَضَعْنَا عَنْكَ وِزْرَكَ (And We removed from you your burden.) He says: and We forgave you for the sins that occurred from you in the past, and We removed from you the heaviness of the days of the jāhiliyya (the time of ignorance) in which you used to be. And in the reading of ʿAbdallāh it stands, according to what has been transmitted: وَحَلَلْنا عَنْكَ وِقْرَكَ الَّذِي أَنْقَض ظَهْرَكَ (And We loosened from you your load, which made your back crack.) He says: which weighed down your back and weakened it. And this is derived from their expression for a camel, when it is exhausted from a journey that has weakened it and caused its flesh to waste away: "he is a nuqḍ safar" (one worn out by the journey).
And in agreement with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.
