And His word: ( As for him who gives and is God-fearing ) — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: As for him among you, O people, who gives in the way of Allah, and that which Allah has commanded him to spend of his wealth, and of what He has bestowed upon him out of His favor, and who fears Allah (ittaqā) and refrains from His forbidden things.

And in agreement with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) also spoke.

    * Mention of who said that:

Ḥumayd ibn Masʿada related to us, saying: Bishr ibn al-Mufaḍḍal related to us, saying: Dāwūd related to us, on the authority of ʿĀmir, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: ( As for him who gives and is God-fearing ) he said: he gave what he possessed and was God-fearing; he said: he feared his Lord.

Ibn al-Muthannā related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī related to us, saying: Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us, on the authority of Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, on the authority of ʿIkrima, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: ( As for him who gives ) — out of the favor (that has been bestowed upon him) — ( and is God-fearing ): he feared his Lord.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: ( As for him who gives ) — the due of Allah — ( and is God-fearing ): the forbidden things of Allah which He has forbidden.

It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word: ( As for him who gives and is God-fearing ), he says: whoever remembers Allah and fears Allah.
