And His statement: ( And indeed, to Us belong the Hereafter and the first [life] ) — He says: And to Us belongs the dominion over what is in the worldly life and in the Hereafter; We give of it to whom We will of Our creatures, and We withhold it from whom We will.
By this He meant, exalted be His praise, that He grants whom He wills of His creatures the capacity for His obedience, and thereby honors him in this worldly life, and prepares for him honor and reward in the Hereafter; and that He forsakes whom He wills of His creatures (in abandoning) His obedience, and thus humiliates him in this worldly life through his disobedience, and disgraces him in the Hereafter through His punishment of him for that.
