تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍۢ

They will be given drink from a boiling spring.

    His statement: تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ (They are given to drink from a boiling spring). He says: the possessors of these faces are given to drink from the beverage of a spring whose heat has reached its utmost and attained its peak in the intensity of heat.

    In accordance with what we have said, the people of interpretation have spoken.

    * Mention of those who said that:

    Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, he said: my father related to me, he said: my uncle related to me, he said: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, His statement: تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ — he said: it is that whose boiling moan (anīn) has lasted long.

    Yaʿqūb related to me, he said: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Abū Rajāʾ, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His statement: تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ — he said: its boiling has reached its utmost since the day Allah created the world.

    Yaʿqūb related it to me yet another time, and said: since the day Allah created the heavens and the earth.

    Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning the statement of Allah: مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ — he said: it has reached its utmost time, and the time to drink from it has come.

    Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, His statement: تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ — he says: its boiling has reached its utmost since Allah created the heavens and the earth.

    Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, he said: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His statement: مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ — he said: from a spring whose heat has reached its utmost; he says: its heat has reached its peak.

    Some of them said: by His statement مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ is meant: from a spring that is present/ready.

    وقوله: ( تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) يقول: تسقى أصحاب هذه الوجوه من شَرَاب عين قد أنى حرّها، فبلغ غايته في شدة الحرّ. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني محمد بن سعد، قال: ثني أبي، قال: ثني عمي، قال: ثني أبي، عن أبيه، عن ابن عباس، قوله: ( تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) قال: هي التي قد أطال أنينها. حدثني يعقوب، قال: ثنا ابن عُلَيَة، عن أبي رجاء، عن الحسن، في قوله: ( تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) قال: أنَى طبخها منذ يوم خلق الله الدنيا. حدثني به يعقوب مرّة أخرى، فقال: منذ يوم خلق الله السموات والأرض. حدثني محمد بن عمرو، قال: ثنا أبو عاصم، قال: ثنا عيسى وحدثني الحارث، قال: ثنا الحسن، قال: ثنا ورقاء، جميعا عن ابن أبي نجيح، عن مجاهد في قول الله: ( مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) قال: قد بلغت إناها، وحان شربها. حدثنا بشر، قال: ثنا يزيد، قال: ثنا سعيد، عن قتادة، قوله: ( تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) يقول: قد أنَى طبخها منذ خلق الله السموات والأرض. حدثنا ابن عبد الأعلى، قال: ثنا ابن ثور، عن معمر، عن الحسن، في قوله: ( مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) قال: من عين أنَى حرّها: يقول: قد بلغ حرّها. وقال بعضهم: عُنِيَ بقوله: ( مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) من عين حاضرة. * ذكر من قال ذلك: حدثني يونس، قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب، قال: قال ابن زيد، في قوله: ( تُسْقَى مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ ) قال: آنية: حاضرة.
