His statement: ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ ("Lord of the glorious Throne"). The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: the Lord of the noble Throne.

And in accordance with what we have said about this, the scholars of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

    * Mention of who said that:

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيدُ ("Lord of the glorious Throne"), he said: the Noble.

And the reciters (qurrāʾ) differed concerning the reading of His statement: الْمَجِيدُ ("the Glorious"). The majority of the reciters of Medina, Mecca, and Basra, as well as some of the Kūfans, read it in the nominative (rafʿ), as referring back to His statement: ذُو الْعَرْشِ ("Lord of the Throne"), so that it belongs to the attributes of Allah, the Exalted whose mention is exalted. But the majority of the reciters of Kūfa read it in the genitive (khafḍ), so that it belongs to the attributes of the Throne.

And the correct judgment concerning this, according to us, is that they are two well-known readings; with whichever of the two the reciter recites, he is correct.
