So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

His statement: فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ("So announce to them a painful punishment"). He, exalted is His praise, says: So announce, O Muḥammad, to these who deny the signs of Allah a painful punishment (ʿadhāb) which awaits them with Allah, agonizing for them.
