فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

    And His statement: فَمَا لَهُمْ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ ("What is it then with them that they do not believe") — He, exalted be His remembrance, says: what is it then with these polytheists (mushrikīn) that they do not hold the oneness of Allah to be true, and do not acknowledge the resurrection after death, while their Lord has sworn to them that they will pass through state after state, despite the proofs they have already beheld of the truthfulness of His oneness.

    And Yūnus related to me, he said: Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: فَمَا لَهُمْ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ ("What is it then with them that they do not believe"), he said: in this message, and in this matter.

    وقوله: ( فَمَا لَهُمْ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: فما لهؤلاء المشركين لا يصدّقون بتوحيد الله، ولا يقرّون بالبعث بعد الموت، وقد أقسم لهم ربهم بأنهم راكبون طبقًا عن طبق مع ما قد عاينوا من حججه بحقيقة توحيده. وقد حدثني يونس، قال: أخبرنا ابن وهب، قال: قال ابن زيد، في قوله: ( فَمَا لَهُمْ لا يُؤْمِنُونَ ) قال: بهذا الحديث، وبهذا الأمر .
