And [by] the moon when it becomes full

And His statement: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full) (84:18). He says: and by the moon when it becomes complete and evenly (round).
In accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes spoke.

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: when it gathers together and becomes evenly (round).
Hannād related to us, saying: Abū al-Aḥwaṣ related to us, on the authority of Simāk, on the authority of ʿIkrima: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: when it becomes evenly (round).
Yaʿqūb related to me, saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Abū Rajāʾ, saying: Ḥafṣ asked al-Ḥasan about his statement: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: when it gathers together, when it is full.
Abū Kudayna related to me, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, on the authority of Ashʿath, on the authority of Jaʿfar ibn Abī al-Mughīra, on the authority of Saʿīd, concerning his statement: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: on the thirteenth (night).

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his statement: إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (when it becomes full), he said: when it becomes evenly (round).
Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of Isrāʾīl, on the authority of Abū al-Haytham, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full): when it becomes evenly (round).
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (when it becomes full): when it becomes round.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full): when it becomes evenly (round).
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, saying: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning his statement: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: when it gathers together and becomes evenly (round).
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning his statement: وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ (By the moon when it becomes full), he said: when it becomes evenly (round).
