The explanation of the statement of the Exalted: وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ ("And as for him who is given his book behind his back") (10).
He, exalted be His remembrance, says: and as for him among you, O people, who on that Day is given his book behind his back — and that is because his right hand is drawn up to his neck and his left hand is brought behind his back, so that he takes his book with his left hand from behind his back. For this reason He, exalted be His praise, has at times described them as those who are given their books in their left hands, and at times as those who are given them from behind their backs.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes have spoken.
* A mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ وَرَاءَ ظَهْرِهِ ("And as for him who is given his book behind his back"), he said: his hand is brought behind his back.
