His saying: تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ ("You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss"). The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: among the righteous, whose attribute Allah has described, you will recognize نضرة النعيم ("the radiance of bliss"), that is to say: its beauty, its luster, and its brilliance.
The reciters differed over the reading of His saying: تَعْرِفُ . The general body of reciters of the cities read it—with the exception of Abū Jaʿfar al-Qāriʾ—as ( تَعْرِفُ فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ ) with a fatḥa on the tāʾ of "taʿrifu," in the second person as a direct address, and ( نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيمِ ) with a naṣb (accusative ending) on "naḍrah." Abū Jaʿfar read it as ( تُعْرَفُ ) with a ḍamma on the tāʾ, in the passive form whose agent is not named, ( فِي وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةُ النَّعِيمِ ) with a rafʿ (nominative ending) on "naḍrah."
And the correct reading of it, according to us, is: that which the reciters of the cities hold to, namely the fatḥa on the tāʾ of ( تَعْرِفُ ) and the naṣb on ( نَضْرَةَ ).
