And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,

The statement concerning the explanation of His word, exalted is He: كَلا بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ ("Nay! Rather you deny the Judgment") (9)
He, exalted is His mention, says: the matter is not, O disbelievers, as you say, namely that you would be in the right in your worship of something other than Allah; but rather you deny the reward and the punishment, the recompense and the reckoning.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning the meaning of His word: بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ ("rather you deny the Judgment"), the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have expressed themselves.

Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His word: بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ , he said: with the reckoning.
Al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ , he said: with the Day of reckoning.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word: بَلْ تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ , he said: a Day of severity, a Day on which Allah recompenses the servants according to their deeds.
