And olive and palm trees

His word: وَزَيْتُونًا ("and olives") — these are the olives from which oil is extracted. وَنَخْلا * وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا ("and date-palms, and lush gardens"). We have already explained that a ḥadīqa is a walled garden (bustān). And His word: غُلْبا means: densely and heavily grown. By His word غُلْبا He means: trees in gardens that are dense and thick.
The word al-ghulb is the plural of aghlab, which means "one with a thick neck," said of men. To this belongs the verse of al-Farazdaq:
"He wept and roused a thick-necked, rending lion — woe to the son of al-Marāgha, what has he roused?"
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) have expressed themselves, despite their mutual difference in the wording of it. Some of them said: it is that of the trees which is intertwined and clustered together.
