The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: فَلْيَنْظُرِ الإِنْسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ ("So let man look at his food") (80:24).
The Exalted, whose praise is sublime, says: let this man — the unbeliever (kāfir) who denies the oneness of Allah — look at his food: how He has apportioned it.
As Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, he said: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning فَلْيَنْظُرِ الإنْسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ ("So let man look at his food") — and his drink; he said: at his food and his drink.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his saying: فَلْيَنْظُرِ الإنْسَانُ إِلَى طَعَامِهِ ("So let man look at his food") — a sign for them.
