Tafseer of Those who drag forth · An-Naazi'aat · 79:34
But when there comes the greatest Overwhelming Calamity -

And His statement: فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى ("So when the great overwhelming calamity comes") (79:34). Allah, exalted is His mention, says: so when that comes which overwhelms all tremendous events and engulfs everything beyond it with the enormity of its terror. And it has been said: it is one of the names of the Day of Resurrection.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning his statement: فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى : it is one of the names of the Day of Resurrection, which Allah has made tremendous and against which He has warned His servants.
Muḥammad ibn ʿUmāra related to me, saying: Sahl ibn ʿĀmir related to us, saying: Mālik ibn Mighwal related to us, on the authority of al-Qāsim ibn al-Walīd, concerning his statement: فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الطَّامَّةُ الْكُبْرَى , that he said: the people of the Garden (janna) are driven to the Garden, and the people of the Fire to the Fire.
