Tafseer of The Resurrection · Al-Qiyaama · 75:30
To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession.

And His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ (And the leg is wound about the leg) — the commentators differed concerning its interpretation. Some of them said: its meaning is: the affliction of the worldly life entwined with the affliction of the Hereafter.
Mention of those who said that:
Abū Hishām al-Rifāʿī related to us, saying: Muʿādh ibn Hishām related to us, saying: my father related to me, from ʿAmr ibn Mālik, from Abū al-Jawzāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: the worldly life with the Hereafter — affliction.
ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, from ʿAlī, from Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he says: the last day of the worldly life and the first day of the Hereafter, and so affliction meets affliction, except for whom Allah has mercy upon.
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he says: the worldly life entwined with the Hereafter, and that is the leg of the worldly life and the Hereafter. Have you not heard that He says: ﴿إِلَى رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ﴾ (To your Lord, on that day, is the driving forth)?
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to us, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both from Ibn Abī Najīḥ, from Mujāhid, concerning His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: the affair of the worldly life entwined with the affair of the Hereafter at death.
Abū Kurayb and Abū Hishām related to us, they said: Wakīʿ related to us, from Sufyān, from a man, from Mujāhid — he said: the last day of the worldly life and the first day of the Hereafter.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, from Qatāda: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: al-Ḥasan said: the leg of the worldly life with the Hereafter.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mehrān related to us, from Sufyān, from Ibn Mujāhid — he said: it is the affair of the worldly life and the Hereafter at death.
ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn related to me, saying: Yaḥyā ibn Yamān related to us, from Abū Sinān al-Shaybānī, from Thābit, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, concerning His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: the people of the worldly life prepare the body, and the people of the Hereafter prepare the soul.
Abū Hishām related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, from Sufyān, from Abū Sinān, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk — likewise.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mehrān related to us, from Sufyān, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk — he said: two affairs came upon him together: the people prepare his body, and the angels prepare his soul.
Abū Hishām related to us, saying: al-Muḥāribī related to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk — he said: the leg of the worldly life with the leg of the Hereafter.
Abū Hishām related to us, saying: Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn related to us, from Abū Jaʿfar, from al-Rabīʿ — likewise, and he added: and it is said: their entwining at death.
Abū Hishām related to us, saying: Ibn Yamān related to us, from Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq, from ʿAṭiyya — he said: the worldly life and the Hereafter.
He said: Ibn Yamān related to us, from ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn Mujāhid, from his father — he said: the affair of the worldly life with the affair of the Hereafter.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, from Maʿmar, from Qatāda: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: the affair of the worldly life with the affair of the Hereafter.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, from Maʿmar, from Qatāda: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: affliction with affliction, the leg of the worldly life with the leg of the Hereafter.
Ibn al-Muthannā related to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar related to us, saying: Shuʿba related to us, saying: I asked Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, and he said: the work of the worldly life with the work of the Hereafter.
Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, from Salama, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk — he said: they are the worldly life and the Hereafter.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: ﴿وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ﴾ — he said: the scholars say two statements concerning it: some of them say: the leg of the Hereafter with the leg of the worldly life. And others said: scarcely does anyone die but that one leg winds about the other. Ibn Zayd said: however, we do not doubt that it is the leg of the Hereafter, and he recited: ﴿إِلَى رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ﴾ (To your Lord, on that day, is the driving forth). He said: when the Hereafter entwined with the worldly life, the driving forth was to Allah. He said: and this is the most widespread statement of those who say that.
And others said: rather, its meaning is: the legs of the dead person entwined when he was wrapped in the shroud.
