Tafseer of The Resurrection · Al-Qiyaama · 75:19
Then upon Us is its clarification [to you].

His word: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"). The exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) differed over its interpretation. Some of them said: its interpretation is: when We send it down to you, then listen to its recitation.
* Mention of who said that:
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Manṣūr and Ibn Abī ʿĀʾisha, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ ("So when We recite it"): when We send it down to you, فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("then follow its recitation"), he said: then listen to its recitation.
Sufyān ibn Wakīʿ related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Mūsā ibn Abī ʿĀʾisha, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"): when We send it down to you, then listen to it.
And others said: no, its meaning is: when it is recited to you, then follow what is in it of laws and rulings.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"), he says: when it is recited to you, then follow what is in it.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"), he says: follow what is permitted in it and avoid what is forbidden in it.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"), he says: follow what is permitted in it and avoid what is forbidden in it.
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, he said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His word: فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("then follow its recitation"), he says: follow what is in it.
And others said: no, its meaning is: when We have expounded it, then act according to it.
* Mention of who said that:
ʿAlī related to us, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His word: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation"), he says: act according to it.
And the correct of these statements concerning it is the statement of the one who said: when it is recited to you, then act according to it in command and prohibition, and follow what you have been charged with therein. For it was said to him [the Prophet ﷺ]: إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ ("Indeed, upon Us is its collection") in your breast, وَقُرْآنَهُ ("and its recitation"); and we have demonstrated that the meaning of His word وَقُرْآنَهُ is "and its reciting." Thereby, then, the meaning of His word is clarified: فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ ("So when We recite it, then follow its recitation; then upon Us is its clarification"). The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: then upon Us is the clarification of what is in it of the permitted and the forbidden, and of its rulings, for you in detail.
And the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) differed over the meaning of that. Some of them said something to the effect of what we have said concerning it.
