Tafseer of The Resurrection · Al-Qiyaama · 75:12
To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.

Allah, exalted is His mention, says: لا وَزَرَ ("There is no refuge"). The Exalted, whose praise is mighty, says: there is no flight there that benefits the one who possesses it, for his fleeing does not save him, and there is nothing to which he can betake himself for refuge — no fortress, no mountain, and no shelter — against the command of Allah which has now arrived; and that is the wazar (the refuge).
And in the same vein as what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation have spoken.
* Mention of those who said that:
ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ ("By no means! There is no refuge"); he says: there is no place of protection (ḥirz).
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ ("By no means! There is no refuge"); he means: there is no fortress and no place of refuge.
Yaʿqūb related to me, saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭarīf related to us, saying: I heard Muṭarrif ibn al-Shikhkhīr reciting: لا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ("I swear by the Day of Resurrection"), and when he came to: كَلا لا وَزَرَ he said: that is the mountain; when people used to flee, they would say: seek refuge at the wazar (the mountain).
Ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī related to us, on the authority of Shuʿba, on the authority of Adham, saying: I heard Muṭarrif say concerning كَلا لا وَزَرَ : by no means, there is no mountain.
Naṣr ibn ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī related to us, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of Khālid ibn Qays, on the authority of Qatāda, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, who said concerning كَلا لا وَزَرَ : there is no mountain.
Yaʿqūb related to me, saying: Ibn ʿUlayya related to us, on the authority of Abū Rajāʾ, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ , he said: the Arabs used to strike terror into one another. He said: two men would sometimes be with their livestock, and they would notice nothing until the cavalry fell upon them; then one would say to his companion: O so-and-so, the wazar, the wazar — the mountain, the mountain!
Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ḥayrī related to me, saying: Muʾammal related to us, saying: Abū Mawdūd related to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ , he said: there is no mountain.
Muḥammad ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān related to us, saying: Sufyān related to us, on the authority of Abū Mawdūd, saying: I heard al-Ḥasan, and he mentioned something similar.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: لا وَزَرَ : there is no place of refuge and no mountain.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning كَلا لا وَزَرَ : there is no mountain, no place of protection, and no deliverance. Al-Ḥasan said: the Arabs in the Jāhiliyya, when they feared an enemy, used to say: seek the wazar, that is to say: seek the mountain.
Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd related to us, saying: Ibn al-Mubārak related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Sulaymān al-Taymī, on the authority of Shabīb, on the authority of Abū Qilāba, concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ , he said: there is no fortress.
Aḥmad ibn Hishām related to us, saying: ʿUbayd Allāh related to us, saying: Sufyān informed us, on the authority of Sulaymān al-Taymī, on the authority of Shabīb, on the authority of Abū Qilāba, something similar.
Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Mihrān related to us, on the authority of Sufyān, on the authority of Sulaymān al-Taymī, on the authority of Shabīb, on the authority of Abū Qilāba, the same.
He said: Yaḥyā ibn Wāḍiḥ related to us, saying: Muslim ibn Ṭahmān related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement: لا وَزَرَ ; he says: there is no fortress.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning لا وَزَرَ , he said: there is no mountain.
Abū Kurayb related to us, saying: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of his father, on the authority of a freedman of al-Ḥasan, on the authority of Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, concerning لا وَزَرَ : there is no fortress.
He said: Wakīʿ related to us, on the authority of Abū Ḥujayr, on the authority of al-Ḍaḥḥāk: there is no fortress.
It was related to me on the authority of al-Ḥusayn, who said: I heard Abū Muʿādh say: ʿUbayd related to us, saying: I heard al-Ḍaḥḥāk say concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ ; he means: the mountain, in the language of Ḥimyar.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His statement: كَلا لا وَزَرَ , he said: there is no shelter in which one can conceal oneself from that command; there is for him no deliverance from it.
