Tafseer of The Cloaked One · Al-Muddaththir · 74:54
No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder
Important: The Arabic source text is always authoritative. This translation is a study aid and has not been verified by scholars — do not use it as a basis for religious proof or for deriving rulings (ahkam). When in doubt, always consult the Arabic text and a qualified scholar.
The Exalted — exalted be His praise — means by His words: كَلا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ ("Nay, it is indeed a reminder"): the matter is not as these polytheists (mushrikīn) say about this Qurʾān, namely that it is sorcery which exerts an effect, and that it is the speech of humans, but rather it is a reminder from Allah to His creatures, by which He has admonished them.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.
* Mention of those who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His words: كَلا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ ("Nay, it is indeed a reminder"), that is to say: the Qurʾān.
