(وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدَى آمَنَّا بِهِ) "And when we heard the guidance, we believed in it." He says: they said: and when we heard the Qurʾān which guides to the straight path, we believed in it — he says: we affirmed it and we acknowledged that it is truth from Allah. (فَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِرَبِّهِ فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلا رَهَقًا) "So whoever believes in his Lord need fear no diminution (bakhs) and no wrong (rahaq)." He says: whoever holds his Lord to be truthful need fear no "bakhs" — he says: he need not fear that anything will be subtracted from his good deeds, so that he is not rewarded for them; and no "rahaq" — that is, no sin imposed upon him from the evil deeds of another, nor an evil deed that he himself commits.

And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes spoke.

    * Mention of who said that:

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: (فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلا رَهَقًا) he says: he need fear no diminution of his good deeds, and no increase of his evil deeds.

Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His saying: (فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلا رَهَقًا) he says: and he need not fear that anything of his work will be diminished.

Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: (فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا): that is, wrong — that he is wronged in his good deeds, so that something is diminished from them, or that the sin of another is imposed upon him; (وَلا رَهَقًا) and no sin.

Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said concerning His saying: (فَلا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلا رَهَقًا) he said: he need not fear that anything of his reward will be diminished, and no "rahaq" — that he is wronged and given nothing.
