Tafseer of Noah · Nooh · 71:10

فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًۭا

And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

    His statement: ( and I said: ask your Lord for forgiveness, indeed He is Most Forgiving ) — he says: and I said to them: ask your Lord for the forgiveness of your sins, and turn back to Him in repentance from your unbelief and from the worship of those gods that exist besides Him, and declare Him One (tawḥīd), and devote worship purely to Him, then He will forgive you; indeed He is Most Forgiving toward the sins of whoever turns to Him and repents to Him of his sins.

    وقوله: (فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا) يقول: فقلت لهم: سلوا ربكم غفران ذنوبكم، وتوبوا إليه من كفركم، وعبادة ما سواه من الآلهة ووحدوه، وأخلصوا له العبادة، يغفر لكم، إنه كان غفارًا لذنوب من أناب إليه، وتاب إليه من ذنوبه.
