Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."

The explanation of His word: قَالَ الْمَلأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ إِنَّا لَنَرَاكَ فِي سَفَاهَةٍ وَإِنَّا لَنَظُنُّكَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ (7:66) (The eminent ones of his people who disbelieved said: "Verily, we indeed see you in foolishness, and verily, we indeed consider you to be one of the liars.")
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is mentioned, says — reporting about that with which his people, who disbelieved in Allah, answered Hūd: "The eminent ones who disbelieved said," that is to say: those who denied the oneness of Allah and rejected His message to them,
= "Verily, we indeed see you," O Hūd, "in foolishness," by which they mean: in error away from the truth and rightness, in that you abandon our religion and the worship of our gods = "and verily, we indeed consider you to be one of the liars."
