قَالَ فَٱهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَٱخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰغِرِينَ

[Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased.

    The explanation of His word: "He said: Descend from here, it does not befit you to be arrogant herein. Depart, then; verily, you are among the debased" (7:13).

    Abū Jaʿfar said: By this He means, exalted is His praise: Allah said to Iblīs at that moment: "Descend from here."

    We have already previously set forth the meaning of "the descending" (al-hubūṭ), in a manner that makes repetition unnecessary.

    = "It does not befit you to be arrogant herein." He, exalted is His mention, says: So Allah said to him: "Descend from here," that is: from the Garden (janna). = "It does not befit you," that is: it is not for you to show arrogance in the Garden against My obedience and My command.

    If someone were to ask: can anyone show arrogance in the Garden? Then it is said: the meaning of this is other than what you supposed. For the meaning is: descend from the Garden, for in the Garden dwells no one who is arrogant against the command of Allah. As for another abode: therein may indeed dwell the one who shows arrogance against the command of Allah, as well as the one who submits himself to His obedience.

    And His word: "Depart, then; verily, you are among the debased." He says: So depart from the Garden, verily, you are among those whom Allah has struck with debasement (al-ṣaghār), lowliness, and contempt.

    Of this it is said: "ṣaghira yaṣgharu ṣagharan wa-ṣagāran wa-ṣughrānan," and it has also been said: "ṣaghura yaṣghuru ṣagāran wa-ṣagārah."

    And in a similar vein al-Suddī spoke.

    14359 - Mūsā related to us, saying: ʿAmr related to us, saying: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: "Depart, then; verily, you are among the debased," and "al-ṣaghār" is debasement.

    القول في تأويل قوله : قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَنْ تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ (13) قال أبو جعفر: يعني بذلك جل ثناؤه: قال الله لإبليس عند ذلك: (فاهبط منها). وقد بيَّنا معنى " الهبوط" فيما مضى قبل، بما أغنى عن إعادته. (15) * * * =(فما يكون لك أن تتكبر فيها)، يقول تعالى ذكره: فقال الله له: " اهبط منها "، يعني: من الجنة =" فما يكون لك ", يقول: فليس لك أن تستكبر في الجنة عن طاعتي وأمري. * * * فإن قال قائل: هل لأحد أن يتكبر في الجنة؟ قيل: إن معنى ذلك بخلاف ما إليه ذهبتَ, وإنما معنى ذلك: فاهبط من الجنة, فإنه لا يسكن الجنة متكبر عن أمر الله, فأما غيرها، فإنه قد يسكنها المستكبر عن أمر الله، والمستكين لطاعته. * * * وقوله: (فاخرج إنك من الصاغرين)، يقول: فاخرج من الجنة، إنك من الذين قد نالهم من الله الصَّغَار والذلّ والمَهانة. * * * يقال منه: " صَغِرَ يَصْغَرُ صَغَرًا وصَغارًا وصُغْرَانًا "، وقد قيل: " صغُرَ يَصْغُرُ صَغارًا وصَغارَة ".
