The discourse on the explanation of His statement, exalted is He: فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ ("Then none of you could have withheld [Us] from him") (47).

He, exalted is His mention, says: then none of you, O people — had Muḥammad falsely ascribed some statements to Us, and had We seized him by the right hand and thereafter severed his life-vein (aorta) — would [be able to] withhold [Us]; they would not be able to prevent Us from punishing him and from doing to him what We would do. And it has been said: حَاجِزِينَ ("withholders") — He used the plural form, although it is an action belonging to "aḥad" ("anyone"), and "aḥad" stands in the wording as a singular, but He referred it [the plural] back to its meaning, because its meaning is the plural. And the Arabs use "aḥad" [customarily] for the single one, the two, and the plural, as it is said: لا نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِنْ رُسُلِهِ ("We make no distinction between [any] of His messengers"), whereas "bayna" ("between") pertains only to two or more.
