— Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: Abū Ḥudhayfa related to us, saying: Shibl related to us, on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: "For every tiding there is a fixed time (mustaqarr)" — for every tiding there is a reality, whether in this world or in the Hereafter. "And soon you will know" — that which was in this world, you will see it, and that which is in the Hereafter, it will become clear to you.
— Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ related to us, on the authority of Muʿāwiya, on the authority of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭalḥa, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, his statement: "For every tiding there is a fixed time," he says: a reality.
— Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, his statement: "For every tiding there is a fixed time, and soon you will know," he says: a deed and a reality, that of it which was in this world and that of it which was in the Hereafter.
And al-Ḥasan explained it thus, that it was the tribulation (fitna) which took place between the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
— Al-Muthannā related to me, saying: Suwayd ibn Naṣr related to us, saying: Ibn al-Mubārak informed us, on the authority of Jaʿfar ibn Ḥayyān, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, that he recited: "For every tiding there is a fixed time," he said: its punishment was withheld, until, [when] its sin was committed, its punishment was released.
