The statement concerning the explanation of His saying: And those who deny Our signs (āyāt), the punishment (ʿadhāb) will afflict them on account of the fact that they fell into moral corruption (yafsuqūn) (6:49).
Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: And as for those who denied those whom We sent to them of Our messengers, who contradicted Our command and Our prohibition and rejected Our proofs — Our punishment and Our chastisement will afflict them directly, on account of their denial of that which they denied of Our proofs. "On account of the fact that they fell into moral corruption (yafsuqūn)," He says: on account of the fact that they denied.
