Tafseer of The Cattle · Al-An'aam · 6:48

And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. So whoever believes and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

The statement concerning the exposition of His saying: (48) ("And We send the messengers only as bearers of glad tidings and as warners. So whoever believes and amends, no fear shall come upon them, nor shall they grieve.") (6:48)

Abū Jaʿfar said: The Exalted, whose praise is proclaimed, says: And We send Our messengers only with the glad tidings to the people who are obedient to Us, concerning the Garden (janna) and the manifest victory on the Day of Resurrection, as a reward from Us to them for their obedience to Us — and with the warning to whoever is disobedient to Us and opposes Our command, concerning Our punishment of him for his disobedience to Us on the Day of Resurrection, as a requital from Us for the disobedience to Us, so that We may excuse Ourselves before him, so that he — if he perishes — perishes upon a clear proof. "So whoever believes and amends" — He says: whoever, among those to whom We sent Our messengers, holds their warning to be true, and accepts from them what they have brought him from Allah, and performs good deeds in the worldly life — "no fear shall come upon them" — at their coming to their Lord, of His punishment and His torment (ʿadhāb) which Allah has prepared for His enemies and the people who are disobedient to Him — "nor shall they grieve" — at that time, over what they have left behind in the worldly life.
