Satan has overcome them and made them forget the remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Unquestionably, the party of Satan - they will be the losers.

The explanation of His words, the Exalted: اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَنْسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ أُولَئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ أَلا إِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ (19) (Satan has overpowered them and thereby made them forget the remembrance of Allah. Those are the party of Satan. Truly, the party of Satan, they are the losers.) (58:19)
He, the Exalted, exalted be His remembrance, means by His words: ( اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ ) (Satan has overpowered them), that Satan has gained the upper hand over them, ( فَأَنْسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ أُولَئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ ) (and thereby made them forget the remembrance of Allah; those are the party of Satan), that is to say: his army and his followers, ( أَلا إِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ ) (truly, the party of Satan, they are the losers). He says: truly, the army of Satan and his followers, they are the ones who perish, the ones cheated in their commercial transaction.
