   He says: وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ * لا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلا مَمْنُوعَةٍ ("and abundant fruit, neither cut off nor withheld") — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: and therein is فَاكِهَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ ("abundant fruit"), of which nothing is ever taken from them whenever they desire it at any moment — as the summer fruit is cut off in the winter in this world — nor is it withheld from them, and neither thorns upon its trees, nor the distance of it from them, stands between them and it — as worldly fruit becomes unattainable for many who desire it because of its distance upon the tree, or because of the thorns that are upon its tree. But when one of them craves it, it falls into his mouth or draws near to him until he can pluck it with his hand.

   And as for what we have said concerning this, so have the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) said.

   And we have already mentioned the report concerning this earlier, and we mention yet another portion of it:

   Muḥammad ibn Bashshār related to us, saying: Sulaymān related to us, saying: Abū Hilāl related to us, saying: Qatāda related to us, concerning His words: لا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلا مَمْنُوعَةٍ ("neither cut off nor withheld"), he said: no thorn and no distance withholds it.

   يقول (وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ * لا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلا مَمْنُوعَةٍ ) يقول تعالى ذكره: وفيها(فَاكِهَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ ) لا ينقطع عنهم شيء منها أرادوه في وقت من الأوقات، كما تنقطع فواكه الصيف في الشتاء في الدنيا، ولا يمنعهم منها، ولا يحول بينهم وبينها شوك على أشجارها، أو بعدها منهم، كما تمتنع فواكه الدنيا من كثير ممن أرادها ببعدها على الشجرة منهم، أو بما على شجرها من الشوك، ولكنها إذا اشتهاها أحدهم وقعت في فيه أو دنت منه حتى يتناولها بيده. وبنحو الذي قلنا في ذلك قال أهل التأويل. وقد ذكرنا الرواية فيما مضى قبل، ونذكر بعضا آخر منها: حدثنا محمد بن بشار، قال: ثنا سليمان، قال: ثنا أبو هلال، قال: ثنا قتادة، في قوله: (لا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلا مَمْنُوعَةٍ ) قال: لا يمنعه شوك ولا بعد.
