    The statement concerning the interpretation of His word, the Exalted: بَلِ السَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَالسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ (54:46)

The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: The matter is not as these polytheists (mushrikīn) claim, namely that after their death they will not be resurrected; nay, the Hour is their appointed time (54:46) for the resurrection and the punishment, and the Hour is more calamitous and more bitter (54:46) for them than the defeat they suffer when they meet the believers at Badr.

Ibn Ḥumayd related to us, saying: Jarīr related to us, on the authority of Mughīra, on the authority of ʿAmr ibn Murra, on the authority of Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, who said: Indeed, this verse was revealed concerning the destruction — indeed, their appointed time is the Hour. Then he recited Are your disbelievers better than those? up to His word and the Hour is more calamitous and more bitter (54:46).
