Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn

His statement إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا ("We sent against them a storm of stones") (54:34) — the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: We sent down upon them stones.
His statement إِلا آلَ لُوطٍ نَجَّيْنَاهُمْ بِسَحَرٍ ("except the family of Lūṭ, whom We saved in the last part of the night") — He says: with the exception of the family of Lūṭ, who believed him and followed him in his religion; them We saved from the punishment (ʿadhāb) with which We punished his people who had called him a liar. And the storm of stones with which We struck them came in the last part of the night (bi-saḥar). نِعْمَةً مِنْ عِنْدِنَا ("as a favor from Us"): He says: a favor that We bestowed upon Lūṭ and his family, and an honoring with which We honored them from Our side.
