The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],

And His word: يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَى نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا ("on the Day when they will be roughly thrust into the fire of Hell (jahannam)"). The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: woe, then, to the deniers on the Day when they are thrust.
And His word: يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ ("on the Day when they are thrust") is an explanation of His word: يَوْمَئِذٍ ("on that Day") and stands in its place. And by His word: يُدَعُّونَ ("they are thrust") is meant: they are driven forward with force and violence. Of this one says: daʿaʿtu fī qafāhu — "I thrust against his neck," when one drives him forward.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the exegetes (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.
