As Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words مُسَوَّمَةً عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ (marked by your Lord for the transgressors) — he said: "Al-musawwama" (marked): these are the sealed stones; the stone is white with a black dot in it, or the stone is black with a white dot in it. That is their marking by your Lord, O Ibrāhīm, for the transgressors — that is to say: for those who overstep the bounds of Allah, the disbelievers in Him, from the people of Lūṭ.
