Explanation of the words of the Exalted: فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلا تَأْكُلُونَ ("Then he set it before them; he said: Do you not eat?") (51:27).

And His words فَقَرَّبَهُ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلا تَأْكُلُونَ ("Then he set it before them; he said: Do you not eat?") — in the words there is something omitted, with which one has been content because of the indication of the manifest [sense] upon it, namely: then he set it before them, but they refrained from eating it, so he said: "Do you not eat?".
