The statement concerning the explanation of His saying, Exalted is He: وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً مُبَارَكًا فَأَنْبَتْنَا بِهِ جَنَّاتٍ وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ (50:9) ("And We have sent down from the sky blessed water, and We have caused gardens to spring forth thereby and the grain of the harvest").
He, exalted is His mention, says: ( وَنـزلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً ) ("And We have sent down from the sky water"), that is to say blessed rain, and We have caused thereby orchards with trees to spring forth, and the grain of the harvested crop: wheat, barley and all the remaining kinds of grains.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda: ( وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ ) ("and the grain of the harvest"): this is the wheat and the barley.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to me, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda: ( وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ ), he said: it is the wheat and the barley.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — all on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid: ( وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ ), he said: the wheat.
And some of the grammarians said concerning His saying ( وَحَبَّ الْحَصِيدِ ): the grain (al-ḥabb) is the harvested (al-ḥaṣīd); it belongs to that which is annexed to itself, just like His saying: إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ الْيَقِينِ ("Verily, this is indeed the certain truth").
