Tafseer of The letter Qaaf · Qaaf · 50:10
And lofty palm trees having fruit arranged in layers -

And His statement ( And the tall date-palms ) (50:10). He says: and with the water that We sent down from the sky We caused the date-palms to grow tall. And al-bāsiq is the tall one; one says of a high mountain: a towering mountain (jabal bāsiq), as Abū Nawfal said to Ibn Hubayra:
O son of those by whose excellence
you have risen high above Qays and Fazāra.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) have spoken.

ʿAlī related to me, saying: Abū Ṣāliḥ related to us, saying: Muʿāwiya related to me, on the authority of ʿAlī, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement ( towering ), he says: tall.
Mohammed ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His statement ( And the tall date-palms ), he said: the tall date-palms.
Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm related to me, saying: Hushaym related to us, on the authority of Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, on the authority of ʿAbd Allah ibn Shaddād, concerning His statement ( And the tall date-palms ), he said: their busūq is their length in rising up.
Hannād related to us, saying: Abū al-Aḥwaṣ related to us, on the authority of Simāk, on the authority of ʿIkrima, concerning His statement ( And the tall date-palms ): the towering ones are the tall ones.
Mohammed ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us — both — on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement ( towering ), he said: the tall.
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( And the tall date-palms ), he said: their busūq is their length.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda ( And the tall date-palms ), he said: that is to say their length.
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His statement ( And the tall date-palms ), he said: al-busūq is the length.
And His statement ( with serried spathes ). He says: these towering date-palms have a spathe, and that is the kufurrā; naḍīd means: piled up, one part above another, packed upon each other.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation have spoken.
