The explanation of His statement, the Exalted: فَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبِّ الأَرْضِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ("To Allah, then, belongs all praise, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth, the Lord of the worlds") (36)
The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: فَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ ("To Allah, then, belongs all praise") for His favors and His benefactions to His creatures. So praise Him, O people, for every favor that you possess is from Him, and not from those things which you worship besides Him among gods and idols, and not from those things which you take as a lord besides Him and assign as partners alongside Him. رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبِّ الأرْضِ ("the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth") — he says: the Owner of the seven heavens and the Owner of the seven layers of the earth, and رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ("the Lord of the worlds") — he says: the Owner of all that is within them of the various kinds of created things.
