The explanation of the words of the Exalted: ذَلِكُمْ بِأَنَّكُمُ اتَّخَذْتُمْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ هُزُوًا وَغَرَّتْكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا فَالْيَوْمَ لا يُخْرَجُونَ مِنْهَا وَلا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ (45:35) (That is because you took the signs of Allah in mockery, and the worldly life deluded you. So this Day they will not be brought out of it, nor will they be asked to please their Lord).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: it is said to them: this which has befallen you this Day of the punishment of Allah, ( بِأَنَّكُمْ ) (is because you), in the worldly life, ( اتَّخَذْتُمْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ هُزُوًا ) (took the signs of Allah in mockery), namely His arguments, His proofs, and the verses of His Book which He sent down upon His Messenger — may Allah bless him and grant him peace — ( هُزُوًا ) (in mockery), that is, ridicule with which you mocked them, ( وَغَرَّتْكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا ) (and the worldly life deluded you), he says: and the adornment of the worldly life deceived you, so that you preferred it over working for that which would have saved you this Day from the punishment of Allah. The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: ( فَالْيَوْمَ لا يُخْرَجُونَ مِنْهَا ) (so this Day they will not be brought out of it), namely out of the Fire (al-nār), ( وَلا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ ) (nor will they be asked to please their Lord), he says: and they will not be brought back to the worldly life to repent and return to contrition concerning that for which they were punished.
