The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحُكْمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ وَرَزَقْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ (45:16) (And indeed, We gave the Children of Israel the Book, the wisdom, and the prophethood, and We provided them with good things, and We preferred them above the worlds).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: ( وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا ) (And indeed, We gave), O Muḥammad, ( بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْكِتَابَ ) (the Children of Israel the Book), by which the Torah and the Gospel are meant, ( والحُكْمَ ) (and the wisdom), by which the understanding of the Book is meant, and the knowledge of the transmitted practices (sunan) which had not been sent down in the Book, ( وَالنُّبُوَّةَ ) (and the prophethood), He says: and We made from among them prophets and messengers to creation, ( وَرَزَقْنَاهُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ ) (and We provided them with good things), He says: and We nourished them with the good things of Our gifts, and that is what He gave them to eat of the manna and the quails, ( وَفَضَّلْنَاهُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ ) (and We preferred them above the worlds), He says: and We preferred them above the worlds of the people of their time, in the days of Pharaoh and his era, in their region in Egypt and Syria.
