And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.

The discourse on the explanation of His statement, the Exalted: وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ بَيِّنَاتٍ مِنَ الأَمْرِ فَمَا اخْتَلَفُوا إِلا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِي بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ (And We gave them clear proofs concerning the matter; and they did not differ except after the knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that wherein they differed) (17).
He, exalted is His mention, says: And We gave the Children of Israel clear matters from Our command, by sending down to them the Torah in which was the exposition of every matter. فَمَا اخْتَلَفُوا إِلا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ — out of desire for leadership, and because they abandoned the exposition of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, in His revelation.
And His statement إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقْضِي بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ — He, exalted is His mention, says to His Prophet Muḥammad, Allah's peace and blessings be upon him: Indeed, your Lord, O Muḥammad, will judge on the Day of Resurrection between those of the Children of Israel who differed out of envy among themselves, concerning that wherein they differed in the worldly life after the knowledge that He had given them and the exposition that had come to them from Him; then at that time, by the decisive judgement, He will give the possessor of the truth the upper hand over the adherent of falsehood between them.
