The explanation of the words of the Exalted: وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِنْهُ إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ (45:13) (And He has made serviceable to you all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth, all of it from Him. Verily, in that are signs for a people who reflect).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: ( وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ ) (And He has made serviceable to you what is in the heavens), such as the sun, the moon, and the stars, ( وَمَا فِي الأرْضِ ) (and what is on the earth), such as the living creatures, the trees, the mountains, the inanimate things, and the ships, for your benefits and your interests, ( جَمِيعًا مِنْهُ ) (all of it from Him). The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: all that I have enumerated to you, O people, of these favors, are favors to you, favors from Allah with which He has favored you, and a mercy from Him with which He has privileged you. Him, therefore, must you praise and none other, for none has shared with Him in the bestowal of these favors upon you as a partner; rather, He alone has been exalted in bestowing them upon you, and all favors are from Him and belong to His benefactions. So in your thanks to Him assign Him no partner, but devote yourselves to Him alone in thanks and worship, and dedicate divinity purely to Him, for there is no god for you besides Him.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the exegetes have spoken.
* Mention of who said that:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd related to me, saying: my father related to me, saying: my uncle related to me, saying: my father related to me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning His words ( وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأرْضِ جَمِيعًا مِنْهُ ): he says: everything is from Allah, and in that naming is contained one of His names; so all of that is from Him, and the disputers do not dispute with Him concerning it. And be convinced that it is so.
And His words ( إِنَّ فِي ذَلِكَ لآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ ): the Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: verily, in Allah's making serviceable for you that of which He has informed you, O people, that He has made it serviceable for you in these two verses, ( لآيَاتٍ ) (are signs), he says: are indications and proofs that there is no god for you besides Him, Who has bestowed upon you these favors and made serviceable for you these things which none other than He can make serviceable, for a people who reflect upon the signs of Allah, His arguments, and His proofs, and draw a lesson from them and let themselves be admonished by them when they reflect upon them and ponder them.
