The explanation of the words of the Exalted: (45:12) (Allah is the One who has made the sea subservient to you, so that the ships may sail upon it by His command, and so that you may seek of His bounty, and so that you may be grateful).
The Exalted, whose remembrance is exalted, says: Allah, O people, is the One to whom alone divinity belongs, who has bestowed upon you these favors which He has set forth for you in these verses, namely that He ( سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ الْبَحْرَ لِتَجْرِيَ ) has made the ships ( فيه بأمره ) (subservient to you upon it, so that they sail upon it by His command), for your sustenance and your travels through the lands to seek His bounty therein, and so that you may thank your Lord for making it subservient to you, so that you worship Him and obey Him in what He commands you and what He forbids you.
