Explanation of the meaning of His word, the Exalted: فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ (58) — "We have only made it (the Qurʾān) easy in your tongue, that perhaps they may be admonished" (44:58).
Allah, whose praise is exalted, says to His Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ: We have only made easy the recitation of this Qurʾān, which We have sent down to you, O Muḥammad, in your tongue, so that these polytheists (mushrikīn), to whom We have sent you, might be admonished by its lessons and its proofs, might be warned by its admonitions, and might reflect upon its signs when you recite it to them, and so might return to obedience to their Lord and submit to the truth once it has become clear to them.
As Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His word ( فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ ): that is, this Qurʾān, ( لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ ) — "that perhaps they may be admonished".
Yūnus related to me, saying: Ibn Wahb informed us, saying: Ibn Zayd said, concerning His word ( فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَاهُ بِلِسَانِكَ ): he said: it refers to the Qurʾān, and "We have made it easy" means: We have made your tongue fluent with it.
