The discourse on the explanation of His statement, the Exalted: إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ (Indeed, the God-fearing will be in a secure abode) (51).
He, exalted is His mention, says: Indeed, those who feared Allah by performing obedience to Him and avoiding sins against Him, will be in an abode, secure in that place from that which one used to fear in the abodes of the worldly life of afflictions and illnesses, hardships and grief.
The reciters differed over the recitation of His statement فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ . Most of the reciters of Medina recited it as فِي مُقَامٍ أَمِينٍ with a ḍamma over the mīm, with the meaning: in a place of residing, secure from departure. And most of the reciters of the two cities, Kufa and Basra, recited it as (في مَقامٍ) with a fatḥa over the mīm, in the meaning which we have described, and directed toward the idea that they are in a secure place and abode.
The correct statement concerning this is that they are two recitations widespread in the recitation of the cities, and both are correct in meaning; with whichever of the two the reciter recites, he has done correctly.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning His statement إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ : Yes, by Allah, secure from Satan, the hardships, and the grief.
