And His saying ( of Pharaoh; truly, he was haughty, one of the transgressors ) — the Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and We truly delivered the children of Israel from the chastisement, from Pharaoh. His saying ( of Pharaoh ) is a repetition of His saying ( of the humiliating chastisement ), as a substitution (badal) for the first. And by His saying ( truly, he was haughty, one of the transgressors ) He means: truly, he was a tyrant, exalting himself, haughty toward his Lord. ( one of the transgressors ) means: one of those who overstep what it is not their place to overstep. The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, means only that he was someone who went too far in his unbelief (kufr) and his haughtiness toward his Lord, whose praise is exalted.
