And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

The statement concerning the explanation of His word, the Exalted: "And We chose them, with knowledge, above the worlds" (44:32)
The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: And We chose the Children of Israel, with knowledge on Our part concerning them, above the worlds of the people of their time in those days, and that was the time of Mūsā, the blessings of Allah and His peace be upon him.
And in accordance with what we have said concerning this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) spoke.
* Mention of who said that:
Bishr related to us, saying: Yazīd related to us, saying: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( And We chose them, with knowledge, above the worlds ): that is, they were chosen above the people of that time, and every time has its world.
Ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, saying: Ibn Thawr related to us, on the authority of Maʿmar, on the authority of Qatāda, concerning his word ( And We chose them, with knowledge, above the worlds ) he said: the world of that time.
Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, saying: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, saying: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, saying: al-Ḥasan related to us, saying: Warqāʾ related to us, both on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning his word ( And We chose them, with knowledge, above the worlds ) he said: above those who were in their midst.
