And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

( And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment ) — the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: and We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the punishment (ʿadhāb) with which Pharaoh and his people used to torment them; "al-muhīn" means: the humiliating, debasing punishment.
And in accordance with what we have said about this, the people of interpretation (ahl al-taʾwīl) spoke.

Bishr related to us, he said: Yazīd related to us, he said: Saʿīd related to us, on the authority of Qatāda ( And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment ): through the killing of their sons and the keeping alive of their women.
