And in anything over which you disagree - its ruling is [to be referred] to Allah. [Say], "That is Allah, my Lord; upon Him I have relied, and to Him I turn back."

(And whatever you differ over—its judgment belongs to Allah). The Exalted, whose mention is exalted, says: and whatever you differ over, O people, and dispute among yourselves, its judgment belongs to Allah. He says: for it is Allah who judges between you and who renders the verdict in the matter.

As Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr related to me, he said: Abū ʿĀṣim related to us, he said: ʿĪsā related to us; and al-Ḥārith related to me, he said: al-Ḥasan related to us, he said: Warqāʾ related to us—both of them—on the authority of Ibn Abī Najīḥ, on the authority of Mujāhid, concerning His statement: (And whatever you differ over—its judgment belongs to Allah). Ibn ʿAmr said in his narration: then He judges therein, and al-Ḥārith said: then Allah judges therein.

And His statement: ذَلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبِّي عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ (That is Allah, my Lord; upon Him I have placed my trust). He says to His Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—: say to these polytheists who ascribe partners to Allah (mushrikīn): This One, whose attributes are these attributes, is my Lord, not your gods whom you call upon besides Him, who are capable of nothing. (Upon Him I have placed my trust) in my affairs, and to Him I have committed my matters, and upon Him I have relied. وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ (and to Him I turn in repentance). He says: and to Him I return in my affairs, and to Him I repent for my sins.
