The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِنْ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ أَلا إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُحِيطٌ (41:54) — ("Indeed, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Lord. Indeed, He encompasses all things.")

The Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: indeed, these who deny the signs of Allah are in doubt about the meeting with their Lord; He means that they are in doubt about the resurrection after death and about their return to their Lord.

As Muḥammad related to us, he said: Aḥmad related to us, he said: Asbāṭ related to us, on the authority of al-Suddī: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ فِي مِرْيَةٍ مِنْ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ ("Indeed, they are in doubt about the meeting with their Lord") — He says: in doubt.

And His saying: أَلا إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُحِيطٌ ("Indeed, He encompasses all things") — the Exalted, whose praise is exalted, says: indeed, Allah encompasses all the things that He has created, with knowledge of the whole of them and with power over them; no knowledge of any thing of them that He wills escapes Him such that it would elude Him, but rather He is capable of it and knows the place of it.
