    The explanation of the saying of the Exalted: ḤĀ MĪM (1)

    We have already mentioned the disagreement of the people of interpretation concerning the meanings of the disconnected letters with which the beginnings of those sūras of the Qurʾān are opened that are opened with them, and we have set forth what is correct of their statement on that according to us, with the proofs that absolve us from repeating that in this place, since these letters are like those that preceded them.

    القول في تأويل قوله تعالى : حم (1) قد ذكرنا اختلاف أهل التأويل في معاني حروف الهجاء التي افتتحت بها أوائل ما افتتح بها من سور القرآن, وبينا الصواب من قولهم في ذلك عندنا بشواهده المغنية عن إعادتها في هذا الموضع إذ كانت هذه الحروف نظيرة الماضية منها.
